CCBA's Get Smart CLE Series: Attention to Civil Practice

Your encouraged to attend CCBA's Get Smart CLE Series: Attention to Civil Practice, Thursday, September 18, 2008 from 1 PM to 4 PM, followed by CCBA hosted Happy Hour until 5 at the Willamette Falls Community Health Education Center (519 15th Street, Oregon City, Oregon).

PROGRAM OUTLINE:

Making Discovery Pay
Peter Glade, of Markowitz Herbold et. al., will spend some time sharing tools that lawyers can use to make discovery more efficient and those discovery tools, like Requests for Admission, which might help in developing a right to recover attorneys fees in civil cases.

The Mind of the Adjuster
Bill Knox of Oliveros and O'Brien PC will moderate a panel of insurance company adjusters who will talk about what works, and what doesn't in bringing cases to a successful conclusion. As with the other speakers, it is anticipated that these adjusters will be taking audience questions.

Why Not Play the Hatfield?
Scott Hunt of Busse and Hunt, is an employee side employment attorney, with regular opportunities to take his cases to either state or federal court. he will be sharing with us the pros and cons of taking your civil case to either venue.

CCBA Hosted Happy Hour
Light snacks and cold beverages will follow the CLE from 4 until 5 PM

To attend, make a check payable to "CCBA" in the amount of $35 for Clackamas County Bar Association members, or $50 for non members (who can join CCBA for the final part of the year and come to the CLE for $65, representing dues for the end of 2008 and the $35 CCBA member tuition), and mail it to Samantha Hazel at Glazer and Associates at 4500 Kruse Way, Suite 390, Lake Oswego, OR 97035, no later than September 10, 2008. Be sure to include the name of the attendee and attendee's phone number.

Clackamas Women Lawyers - "A Social in the Park"

Please join the newly formed Oregon Women Lawyers for a potluck social in the park, Saturday, August 9 at Rivercrest Park (near the spray park shelter). 131 Park Drive, Oregon City. This is a casual, family friendly event and BLUE COYOTE CATERING has graciously agreed to provide hamburgers, cheese burgers, and Boca (vegan) burgers. All are welcome. Please bring blankets and folding chairs for additional seating and also a side dish or dessert for all to enjoy based upon your last name: A – L please bring a side dish or salad. M – Z please bring a dessert. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. **PLEASE NOTE** that alcohol is not permitted at Rivercrest Park.

2008 CCBA Summer Picnic – July 19, 2008

Join your CCBA colleagues and families for an afternoon of food and fun at CCBA member Steve Kelly's home in Gladstone from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is a casual, family-friendly event. Busters barbecue and beverages will be provided. It's a potluck for the rest - those of you with last names beginning A - L bring on your best salads and sides and those with M-Z make a delectible dessert! Mr. and Mrs. Kelly have a pool and room for volleyball, so bring your suit and sportswear if you are so inclined.

2008 Honorable Dale Jacobs 18 Hole Golf Scramble

Good times were had by all at Stone Creek Golf Club on Friday, May 30, 2008. Honors go to the 2008 Champs Bill Hedges, Jeff Eden, Steve Kelly and Andy Daniel who racked up a scorching 59.

New E-mail Procedure: Clackamas County Circuit Court

Beginning July 1, 2008 the Clackamas County Circuit Courts will be providing "Notice of Scheduled Court Proceedings" as a PDF file via e-mail, replacing the printed notice you now receive. Attorneys will need to acquire and provide an e-mail address to the court by June 2, 2008. To help insure a smooth transition, if applicable, please consider whether you want to provide the courts with an individual e-mail address or establish one e-mail address for an entire agency or firm. Submit e-mail address to: CLA.Court.Notices@ojd.state.or.us.
